Never Mind the Issues! Is the Candidate Christian Enough?

There’s a special primary election coming up later this month in the nearby city of Florence, SC. There are two guys running for the Republican nomination. Let’s leave their names out of it for the moment.

The incumbent defines himself as a Christian Conservative. OK. Try getting elected in Deep Red South Carolina WITHOUT being one.

His opponent, however, takes it to the extreme. He runs a car dealership, where their TV commercial makes several references to “discipleship training” and “evangelical outreach.”

In a car commercial.

His campaign ad has no fewer than five shots of a spokesperson, a local pastor in a field with a HUGE wooden cross in the background. He says one of the reasons he supports the opponent is “because he truly loves Jesus.”

Cool. So do I!

Can I be a state senator now?
